A thick end-grain block that is kind to knife edges and heavy enough not to wander. Bring the roast to the table on it, or set out bread, cheese and a pot of butter.
Finished with food-safe oil and beeswax. Re-oil once a month.
Wash by hand in warm water and dry straight away. Carbon steel and cast iron like a thin coat of oil after drying; wood likes a rub of oil once a month. Nothing we make belongs in the dishwasher, except the stoneware.
